Art and design is a popular subject at key stage 3, 4, and 5. Through Art and Design the department is there to enhance pupils enjoyment, knowledge, and understanding of the observed world as well as encourage the development of their imagination and creativity. The heightening of perception and realisation of the visual and tactile world enables students to look, assess, learn from and make more informed judgements which will influence and benefit their community and environment.
Many students continue with their Art and Design studies to exam level where at GCSE the students follow the OCR syllabus. Coursework projects enable students to develop highly personal artwork working progressively with more confidence and independence. They are required to record information using a wide range of materials and techniques in order to develop ideas in both two and three dimensions. Many students then take this to an even higher level studying AS/A2 Art. More detailed information can be found in the relevant web pages.
