Welcome to The Faculty of Mathematics

The Harry Carlton Faculty of Mathematics is committed to providing the very best mathematical education to students of all ages. Our KS3 results are above the national average and amongst the best in the county.

Homework is available in three formats.
1)  There are homework sheets on this web site under the relevant year group pages and classified by National Curriculum levels.
2) Each student has a login name and password to use on
MyMaths or SamLearning. Homework or booster packs can be found here for all NC levels.
3) Your teacher may give you additional homework.

Look out for Mathletics.

Do you enjoy mathematical puzzles?

Try the weekly Mathematics NRich Puzzle.

Some puzzles are easier than others so make sure you look each week.

Look on the Mathematics Notice board for the latest Puzzle of the Month.

Give your answer to Mr Barkley or your mathematics teacher.

Puzzle of the Month can also be found on our web site on the Puzzles page.

Fantasy Football

Do you think you can pick a football team to beat the rest?

Use your £60million to select a team at: Schools' Fantasy Football

Note: when registering a team, select Leicestershire and Loughborough in order to find Harry Carlton School.

Organisation of classes

On entry to the school students are taught in mixed ability tutor groups - this helps bridge the gap between learning styles at primary and secondary level. Students may be placed in broad core subject sets half way through the first term.

Each student is carefully tracked throughout the year by regular formal assessments. In year 8 all students are placed in an appropriate set. Again regular assessment takes place and movement between sets is possible throughout Key Stage 3.

Mathematics is a very popular option at AS and A Level with Mathematics and Further Mathematics on offer.

All students have the opportunity to take part in enrichment activities such as the Puzzle of the Month.  The more able mathematicians are entered in the national Mathematics Challenge competitions.

Able, Gifted and Talented students can take part in extension and enhancement activities - these include a specially devised scheme of study and whole day workshops at Loughborough and Warwick Universities.  The faculty also works closely with our feeder primary schools to offer extension classes, workshops and challenges.
